Muse & the Marketplace

Filed under: Conferences — Brian Triber @ 4:16 pm

Well, the 2009 Muse & the Marketplace conference has come and gone. There was a terrific keynote speech by Ann Patchett, and I met the extremely gracious Hank Phillippi Ryan, who has three novels coming out this year. Here’s a list of the sessions I attended while at the conference:

  • The State of the Industry — panel discussion with Joseph Olshan, Hallie Ephron, Jane Roseman, and David Langevin, moderated by Sorche Fairbank
  • How to Query an Agent — Chuck Sambuchino
  • Perfect Pitch — Katharine Sands
  • Extreme Research — Jenna Blum
  • Promotion & Publicity — panel discussion with Pagan Kennedy, Jan Gardner, Hank Phillipi Ryan, Taryn Roeder, moderated by Yael Goldstein Love
  • Diving Into the Novel — Vyvyane Loh

My favorites were the Extreme Research and the Diving Into the Novel sessions. Both Jenna Blum and Vyvyane Loh were extremely entertaining and informative, peppering their presentations liberally with personal illustrations.

As Uncle Ben Parker said to Peter, “With great power comes great responsibility…”
